Mock Ups Of Print Products- Magazine Review & Poster

Today we created mock ups of our short film magazine review page and poster. I created the film poster sketch and my partner created the film review sketch. These were formed on the basis the case studies we analysed previously. We used similar features to our case studies as our film and the films we chose for our case studies had the same/similar genre. We have used conventions of real magazine reviews and posters as our case studies show. Below are the mock ups of both products which we soon hope to pitch to a group of people for constructive feedback.

^ This is the review page of our short film. my partner created this sketch while i wrote out the actual review. This review contains all the pieces of information and images we hope to include as shown in the sketch.

^ This is the film poster layout we hope to create which i created using our chosen case studies. The image plays the main role in catching the audiences attention. i have also included other key factors such as promotional information, quotes, character names, directors names etc.

However, due to the snow we have to change our idea of using a location shoot. Hence, over the next few days we will be carrying out our studio photography for the poster and review page. Also we had to change our idea of using  group picture to a side image of our main character with other characters being placed within her head just like the Bullet Boy poster. We will be showing the progress we have made while creating the print products.

Adulthood Poster Analysis

Adulthood Poster Analysis

Use of images/s:
  • wide shot- to show what they are wearing, body gestures, location and overall look
  • taken from the centre point
  • facial expressions and attitude convey the problems they are going through and the seriousness of the film
  • the use of the weapon again just like kidulthood which reinforces the idea of violence (key theme). This is clearly linked to the genre of the film which is a thriller based on the negative aspects of youth culture
  • their are different levels for how the characters are placed in the image and preferably in order of importance
  • most important character- Sam placed at the front- shows strength and power he has
  • top of the poster is an ash orange colour slowly as it goes down it becomes more of a bright yellow and then by the bottom of the poster it becomes brown this could be to make the poster stand out and to set a certain mood
  • costumes of the characters are track suits, hoods conveying a youth and intimidating image hence making the audience think whether this is the right type of film for them
  • similar characters as kidulthood however the question that is placed to the audience to find out is how relevant or important they are and also to see who has grown up since kidulthood and who hasn't
  • the use of the tower blocks on the left of the poster sets the scene of the film in inner city areas this could also again reflect the seriousness and crime theme of the film

Text used and its placement:
  • quote placed above the four stars rating- 'fearless and full-on..' successful review given by the mirror this also in some ways creates the mood of the movie making the audience think whether it is their type of genre of films
  • four star rating, between both quotes- makes the audience think it is a film worth watching as it has a really good rating
  • quote placed below the four star rating- 'phenomenal..' complementing review the UK magazine- touch, this makes the film have more value and representation by a highly popular company
  • title of the film, centre of the poster- 'Adulthood' it says 'after kidulthood comes adulthood' this creates a meaning to the film itself aswell as creating a logo and identity overall in order  to make it easily recognisable. also creating a clear link between the two films
  • website, bottom of the poster- 'www.adulthoodmovie.co.uk' through this website the audience can gain more information so they may consider just having a quick look and could possibly get drawn into the film making it a successful promotional method
  • release date, bottom of the poster- 'june 20 in cinemas nationwide' this lets the audience know when they can view the film in cinemas so that they can look forward to it and preferably keep this date into their head
  • free trailer promotion, bottom of the poster- 'text hood...' this allows the audience to view the trailer and see if they like it or not hence wanting to watch the film or not
Combination of images and text:
  • as the quote suggest 'fearless...'  this is clearly seen in the expressions and attitudes of the characters as they seem like they are not bothered even though they have have a lot going on as individuals

Branding and other promotional methods used:
  • use of release date and website clearly written to catch the reader’s attention in order to promote it, web addressee essential for the audience to use if they want to find out more
  • the website where the audience can access the soundtrack, DVD, downloads, pictures etc hence promoting the film so that the audience is drawn in
  • complementing review by touch an the mirror and distribution of film by Pathe pictures gives the film more important and builds the promotional method for the film abroad, in revenues and for expansion purposes in general as these companies are well represented
  • the use of being able to text the number to get a free trailer this promotes the film as people will want to have a quick look and it is available on their phones which is a high advantage as we are a technology generation, making it free gives it more advantage as the audience will think they have nothing to loose
  • use of four stars rating making it out that it is a really good film
How these can be used/subverted into my film poster:
  • use of weapon at the bottom of the poster on the floor
  • a contrasting background to set the mood of the film poster
  • use of different levels to convey importance
  • bold, sharp and clear fonts
  • use of promotional methods such as websites, quotes etc
